Basic Phrases

After learning the alphabet and numbers, it's time to start building sentences. I've put together a list of everyday ASL phrases to help you start communicating quickly.

To Do:

  • Practice signing greetings like "Hello," "How are you?", and "Good morning."
  • Learn how to ask common questions such as "What's your name?" and "Where are you from?"
  • Get comfortable with responses like "Yes," "No," and "Thank you."

Watch the videos below to see these phrases in action, and practice them regularly. Once you're confident using these phrases, continue to the next section to learn the fundamentals of ASL grammar. Understanding sentence structure and word order will help you put these phrases together more naturally in conversation.
